Knowing your skin better - Different type of skin
TYPE OF SKIN & IT'S CONDITION
People are born with their skin type. Like everything else, skin can change over time. An individual's skin type is primarily based on how much oil is produced in the follicles from the oil glands. generally, an individual's skin becomes drier over time.
Typically, any type of skin needs daily pampering and it could be maintained by routine cleansing and moisturizing. Every skin type has its own needs to stay healthy. This can be better understood by beginning to know your skin type. Let's dive dipper to understand this further.
Further, it is all the more important for an aspiring makeup artist to know the various skin types before you start offering your services to people. Broadly, you can classify skin into 4 types:
- Normal Skin
- Oily Skin
- Dry Skin
- Combination Skin
Normal Skin Type
- Has a good oil / water balance.
- Can fluctuate and sometimes will be a little dry or a little oily.
- The follicles are normal sized and the skin is usually free of blemishes.
How to take care of it?
Maintenance and proper care is the goal for this type of skin.
Oily Skin Type
- Over production of sebum / oil.
- Feels thicker than dry or normal skin.
- Has enlarged pores.
- Appears shiny compared to dry or normal skin.
- More prone to pimples and blemishes, due to excessive oil.
- Less prone to wrinkles and fine lines.
- Over cleansing can make matters worse by stripping the skin off its natural oils and irritating.
How to take care of it?
Proper exfoliation and a water based hydrator will help keep oily skin clean and balanced.
Dry Skin Type
- Does not produce enough oil.
- The follicles are usually small and the sebum (oil) is minimal.
- Dry skin can be oil dry or moisture dry.
- It is normally thin and looks dull.
- Moisture dry skin is known an dehydrated skin
- A dehydrated skin is prone to fine lines and wrinkles.
- Dehydration of the skin may be a temporary condition varying from season to season and from various factors in the environment.
How to take care of it?
Using too heavy a cream or oil on dry skin may inhabit its production of natural oils by the sebaceous glands.
Combination Skin
- Can be both oily and dry at the same time.
- The T-Zone through the middle of the face on the forehead, nose, and chin is oilier.
- This area has more oil glands and larger pores.
- The outer areas of the face can be dry and even appear flaky.
How to take care of it?
Needs to be balanced and requires more care than normal skin and water based products work better.
A simple test to identify your skin type
To find out your skin type you need to simply wash your face with your daily face wash & gently wipe off the face. After that wait for 30 minutes.
- If your skin seems shiny all through, you probably have oily skin.
- In case it feels tight and is flaky or layered, you probably have dry skin.
- If the shine is just in your T-Zone (forehead, nose, and chin), you presumably have combination skin.
- In case your skin feels hydrated and comfortable, yet not shiny, you probably have normal skin.
